Dark Glamour Knacks

These five knacks draw not on the Heroes of the legends of the isles, but on their opponents. While any Glamour Mage may choose to draw on these darker aspects of legend, people are less inclined to trust a hero who calls on the powers these villains grant. For each level a mage has in a Dark Glamour Knack, his reputation is at a penalty of -1.

Jack in Irons (Brawn)

The strength of Jack in Irons (legend in the Avalon Sourcebook) and the damage that strength allows him to deal out make him a fearsome opponent indeed.

Apprentice: add Knack to any damage roll

Journeyman: double brawn for any damage roll. (Brawn 2 with Fencing Sword rolls 6k2 instead of 4k2)

Master: Increase Brawn by 1 for one Scene.

Jenny Greenteeth (Finesse)

One version of her legend appears in the Avalon sourcebook. In many versions of the legend, it is said that Jenny Greenteeth attacks her prey quickly, and her long arms and spidery fingers make her attacks hard to avoid.

Apprentice: At this level, the mage may spend a Drama Die to add twice the level of her Jenny Greenteeth Knack to any Attack roll. This is increased to three times the level of the knack with Attack (Wrestling).

Journeyman: Subtract Knack in dice from opponent’s Active Defense.

Master: +1 Finesse for scene

King Milige (Wits)

Milige was a master strategist in Inismore’s days of legend. He tricked a King of Inismore (obviously before the O’Bannon) into giving him the opportunity to steal his wife as the prize for a chess game. When the High king laid siege to Milige’s castle, all the damage that was done in a day was repaired that night until the High king had salt scattered over the damaged areas.

Apprentice: Spend a Drama die and add twice the level of this Knack to any Commander roll, by the mage or one of his companions.

Journeyman: Spend a Drama die to heal one critical wound in the fortification you are defending

Master: Imbue a Chessboard with the Fate of a Battle:

The Game may either be played out, in which case each "point" value of each piece taken is added to all rolls (both Strategy and personal results) by the captor’s army. If Rolled out using Gaming or Strategy, then the players make contested rolls each round of battle. The victor’s Gaming or Strategy knack is then added to all rolls. (again, both Strategy and Personal Results)

If the Chessboard is disturbed, the enchantment is lost.

Beansidhe (Resolve)

There are many legends about the Wailing Woman. A good one is presented in the Avalon Sourcebook. Whatever the tale, her cry strikes fear into the very heart of those that hear it.

Apprentice: Add rank to resolve to face a creature with Fear.

Journeyman: Gain Rank in knack as Fear rating for the Scene

Master: Same as Journeyman, except that a Drama die is no longer required. A Glamour Master with Beansidhe may grant himself a Fear Rating of 5 at will. He may place this fear rating on some one/thing else with the expenditure of a Drama Die.

Gancanagh (Panache)

The Gancanagh or Love talker (sometimes called the Gaconner) is a Rake and scoundrel of the worst kind. Searching the night for lonely young women, he takes the form of their ideal lover, seduces them, then exposes their weakness to all before abandoning the young maid. Few of his victims live long afterwards dying of despair or a broken heart.

Apprentice: Add 3x knack rank to any roll using Courtier Knacks (including when the knack appears under a different Skill)

Journeyman: Add rank to Kept dice for Witty Repartee tables involving Seduction

Master: When facing a Glamour master with Gancanagh, Heroes must spend two drama dice to cancel the activation of their Hubris, rather than one. This effect does not require the expenditure of a Drama Die, beyond that to activate the Hubris
